📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Say Watts. “Big time players make big time plays in big time games.”

Mark down Megan Watts as a big time player as the senior captain scored her fourth goal of the season at a critical time and the nation’s leading defense did the rest as ODU women’s soccer picked up a HUGE 1-0 win over Appalachian State on Friday.

Junior Emily Bredek made a season-high nine saves en route to tying a single-season program record with her ninth shutout of the season.

The Monarchs entered the match leading the country with a 0.31 goals against average, which now sits at 0.29 after the 10th shutout of the season for the Blue & Gray.

With three regular season Sun Belt games left, ODU currently sits atop the conference standings with 16 points and have an unbeaten streak of five or more for the second time this season.

🔼 Seven Up. Who let the ODU field hockey team get hot?

In the beginning of September, the Monarchs lost three straight games to three straight top-10 opponents by a total of four goals.

Since that stretch, the Blue & Gray have been lights out.

This weekend was no different as ODU poured in 10 goals in en route to wins over Villanova (6-5) and Richmond (4-0) to extend their win streak to seven.

Senior Marlon de Bruijne and sophomore Sacha de Gier each had three goals on the weekend to lead the potent offensive attack. de Bruijne also added two assists for the Monarchs.

🔼 Three’s Company. What a weekend for the Monarchs!

Not one, not two, but THREE double pairings for the Blue & Gray reached the semifinals at the ITA Atlantic Regionals hosted in Lynchburg.

All three will continue their quest on Monday on the campus of Liberty!

🏀 THE GRIND NEVER STOPS

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

Nine Is Fine. As we mentioned above, junior Emily Bredek picked up her ninth shutout of the season on Friday with a 1-0 victory over App State.

Bredek made a career-high nine saves in the win over the Mountaineers.

The Huntington Beach, Calif. native tied Kasey Perry (2021) and one other former keeper to reach nine shutouts in a single-season.

Who was the first Monarch keeper to tally nine shutouts in a season?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Lauren Tupman in 2008.

Tupman, who was a senior in 2008, anchored a defensive unit that helped ODU to a 14-4-2 season. The Monarchs dropped a tough PK decision to Hofstra in the CAA quarterfinals that year.
