Big #71 Santana Saunders is an anchor on the ODU offensive line,
playing in 35 games over the past three seasons for the Monarchs.

Last fall, he started all 13 games, four at left tackle and nine at right tackle, helping pave the way for four 100-yd rushers throughout the campaign.

The Upper Marlboro, Md. native graduated this spring with a criminal justice degree and will be working on his master’s degree as he enters his final year
of eligibility for the Monarchs.

⚾️ THE BIG 5-0-0

A big congrats to former ODU standout Daniel Hudson, who late last month, joined Justin Verlander as the only Monarchs to appear in 500+ major league games.

Hudson, who is now in his 15th MLB season, is a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen, where he’s piled up a 3-1 record with 1.88 ERA in 29.2 innings of work this season.

In his career, Hudson has appeared in 511 games with seven different teams.

👏 MAKING AN IMPACT

We all enjoy the wins. We all enjoy the championships. But seeing our Monarchs make an impact off the field is what it’s really all about.

The hundreds of ODU student-athletes did that and then some this past year with the Monarchs finishing ninth in the country in community service efforts, recently announced by the organization, Helper Helper.

“ODU's goal is to help student-athletes cultivate a heart for service and create a habit of giving back to local communities. ODU Athletics strives not only to teach student-athletes to serve our Hampton Roads area, but to become lifelong volunteers in every aspect of their life,” said Director of Student-Athlete Services and Community Engagement Amy Lynch.

A tracking service for community work hours, Helper Helper worked in conjunction with the NCAA to run a community service challenge for all Division I institutions. Schools were evaluated on time donated and participation levels. 

ODU finished ninth in community engagement hours served with a total of 7,645 and a participation level of 99% for the 2023-24 academic year.
