📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Tribal Takedown. The arms are race is heating up in Norfolk.

Over the past 32 innings, ODU hurlers have allowed just three earned runs and that dominance on the mound has led the Monarchs to three straight wins, including a 6-2 takedown of local rival, William & Mary on Tuesday at the Bud.

Six different Monarch arms combined to scatter six hits and strikeout 13, which allowed the offense to get going with five runs over the course of the first four innings.

Kyle Edwards and Steven Meier set the tone at the top of the lineup, combining for five hits and four RBIs.

🔼 Power Pair. It’s been a season full of success for the ODU women’s hoops team and this week, the success continued.

A pair of Monarch veterans, Kaye Clark and En’Dya Buford, were both honored this week in the Sun Belt Conference yearly accolades.

Clark was named the Conference Defensive Player of the Year, while Buford earned a spot on the All-Sun Belt Third Team.

A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Clark repeated as the Sun Belt leader in steals and steals per game. She finished the regular season ranked eighth in the country in steals (87) and 12th in steals per game (3.0).

Buford, a Memphis, Tennessee native who transferred to ODU from Jones Junior College this season, is the leading scorer for the Monarchs with 12.4 points per game.

🔼 Y’All Thought We Were Finished? It's not how you start, it’s how you finish, right?

That may have been the motto for the ODU women’s lacrosse team on Tuesday as the Monarch fell behind early, but used a dominant comeback to earn a 18-13 win over visiting George Washington.

The Revolutionaries jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the second quarter, but ODU responded with a 7-1 run of their own to take control of the game and pull away in the second half.

Emma Arnold was the star of the day with seven goals and an assist, while Lilly Siskind added four goals and three assists in the win.

🔼 And Another One. Since arriving on campus at ODU, Chaunce Jenkins has been the heart beat of the Monarchs hoops squad.

Last season, he earned a spot on the Sun Belt All-Conference third team. This season, he took it up a level as he was named to the All-Conference second team.

A Newport News, Va. native, Jenkins leads the Monarchs in scoring (16.2 ppg), in assists (79), 3-pointers made (46), field goals made (162), free throws made (117) and attempted (161). He had 10 games of 20 or more points, including a career-high 27 at Arkansas State.

In the league, he was fourth in scoring and 11th in field goal percentage. During conference play, he was fourth in scoring and 13th in field goal percentage.

🏀 ONE OF US

“One of us.”

That’s been used several hundred times over the past few days to describe the newest head coach of ODU men’s basketball, Mike Jones.

It marks the second time in program history that ODU has hired an alumnus to coach its men's basketball team as Jones becomes the 14th head coach in program history.

An Old Dominion alumnus, Jones played for the Monarchs from 1991-95 and was a part of two tournament championship teams and one of the greatest wins in ODU history, He returns to ODU after spending this season as an assistant coach at Maryland.

He is the second ODU alumnus to be head coach of his alma mater, joining Oliver Purnell, who Jones played for his first three seasons at ODU. He also is the third African American head coach in program history, along with Purnell and the late Jeff Capel.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Jasmine Parker.

Clark is the first Lady Monarch to win a Defensive Player of the Year since Jasmine Parker in the CAA in 2009-10. Along with Clark and Parker, Max Nhassengo (2003-04) and Mery Andrade (1998-99) are the only other players in program history to earn the yearly accolade.

🦁 Have a great day, y’all!
