Monarch Brew 4/24: Rammin' It Home

ODU takes down in-state rival, VCU, 7-1

Happy Wednesday ODU Fam. All wins are fun. But wins over your rivals…. those are a little more fun.

That’s exactly what the ODU baseball boys picked up on Tuesday night, plus the women’s tennis squad brought in a HAUL in the yearly conference awards.

What a Brew we have for you! Check it out below!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Rammin’ It Home. Chalk another state win up for the baseball boys!

UVA, William & Mary, JMU, Richmond and now VCU.

ODU baseball is truly making a STATEment against fellow Commonwealth schools after a decisive 7-1 victory over the visiting Rams on Tuesday night.

Seven Monarch hurlers combined to allow just two hits and strike out 12, while the offense used a big five-run seventh inning to put the game away, keyed by this three-RBI double from Kenny Levari.

🔼 What a Haul. This weekend, the ODU women’s tennis team is looking to bring home some hardware from Rome, Ga.

Before the Sun Belt Tournament even starts, the Lady Monarchs have already hauled in plenty of hardware as ODU swept the major awards in the yearly conference accolades.

Sofia Johnson earned Player of the Year honors, Ulyana Romanova was named Freshman of the Year, Lidiia Rasskouskaia was named Newcomer of the Year and Player to Watch and Dominic Miller was named Coach of the Year yet again.

🔼 The Return. Pitching near where his career took off, this one may have felt a little more special for ODU legend Justin Verlander.

The former Monarch took to the mound at Nationals Park late last week for the first time in 2024 after missing some time with shoulder inflammation.

It was his 510th career start and he did what he’s always done, toss six strong innings en route to yet another Astros victory.

🎥 A TOKEN OF APPRECIATION

Recently, two of ODU’s own took some time to share their appreciation with the ODU Athletic Fund and it’s supporters.

Football’s Messiah deWeaver and Women’s Soccer’s Yuliia Khrystiuk shared their stories, journeys and what the ODU experience has meant to them.

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

On Tuesday night at the Bud, a slew of ODU hurlers combined to strike out 12 VCU hitters.

In their 40 games so far this spring, how many times have the Monarchs struck out 10+ opposing hitters in a game?
