🏈 ON THE ROAD AGAIN

After three straight weeks in the friendly confines of Ballard Stadium, the ODU football team is back on the road for the second straight week, this time heading to Hattiesburg for a crucial Sun Belt showdown with Southern Miss.

This is the first matchup between the two schools since 2016 when the Monarchs won an absolute shootout, 51-36, here in Norfolk.

With 6:50 showing on the regulation clock, Anna Tørsløv fired home her third goal of the season to lift the Monarchs to a thrilling 2-1 road victory over Marshall to sit atop the Sun Belt standings with a 4-1 ledger in conference action.

The win by the Blue & Gray equals last year’s total of nine victories and ODU still has five regular season matches left.

Tørsløv’s classmate Ece Turkoglu scored the other goal for ODU, blasting home her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 32nd minute.

On Monday, ODU men’s soccer announced the signing of seven-year-old Waylen Cheatham, who joined the team through Team IMPACT.

Cheatham, who was born with a number of congenital heart defects, officially signed with the team on Saturday at the ODU Soccer Complex. Cheatham is a second grader at Middlesex Elementary School and is from Hartfield, Virginia.

💪 RIVALRY RENEWED

TowneBank is a longstanding supporter of college athletics, and we are excited to cheer along the healthy competition for the second year of the TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge between Old Dominion University and James Madison University.

We are fortunate to have a strong alumni base on both sides of the rivalry within the Towne family, and we look forward to seeing who will hoist the crown for the 2023-2024 academic year.

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

Rollin’, Rollin’, Rollin’. Kadarius Calloway certainly left his mark on last week’s showdown at Marshall.

He etched his name all over the ODU record book, rushing for the second most yards in a game (236) and became the first Monarch with 3+ rushed of 65 yards or more.

His TD run of 75 yards tied for the second longest run in program history.

Who has the longest single rush by a Monarch?

Answer: Gerard Johnson.

On November 23, 2013, Johnson got loose for an 81 yard run against UNC. To this day, that run remains the longest in program history.
