Monarch Brew 1/3: We Were On A Break!

Monarchs Jumping Right Into Conference Hoops Play

Happy New Year Monarchs! Unlike Ross and Rachel, there’s no debate on this one, the Monarchs were on a break.

Now, after a holiday break with friends and family, the Monarchs have jumped right back into conference play and hit the court again tomorrow night to continue their campaigns.

What all do we have stirring in today’s edition of the Brew? Check it out!

🔼 Feeling 100. After a 10-day break, the Lady Monarchs got right back to their winning ways and for Coach Milton-Jones, she got a late Christmas gift… win #💯.

ODU traveled to South Alabama to open up Sun Belt play this past weekend, taking home a hard-fought 62-56 victory to improve to 9-2 on the season and earn coach her career victory no. 100.

The trademark defense didn’t take a break as the Monarchs forced the Jags into a season-high 28 turnovers to lead the way.

Offensively, three players finished in double-figures with a team-high 12 points from Jordan McLaughlin. Kaye Clark and En’Dya Buford added 10 a piece as well.

🔼 Holiday Heartbreak. The ODU men’s squad return to the home court this past weekend, but suffered a little of late holiday heartbreak.

A last-second layup by South Alabama capped off a furious second-half rally by the Jaguars, who pulled out a 61-59 win over the Monarchs in the conference opener for both squads.

Freshman Vasean Allette continued his strong season with his 10th straight double-digit scoring performance, leading the team with 15 points, while also setting a career-high with five steals.

The Monarchs now will be tested on the road as they hit out for four straight away from home.

🔼 Getting The Call. Plenty of calls are exchanged during the holiday season.

Very few are as awesome as the one that former Monarch Zach Kuntz received as he was elevated to the NY Jets active roster for the final two games of the regular season.

Kuntz was dressed and on the sideline for the Jets’ showdown with the Browns this past Thursday and is set to be back in active this Sunday when they head to New England for the season finale.

🤔 MONARCH TRIVIA

The ODU women’s basketball team has flexed its defensive muscles all season long. A trademark of that defense has been their pressure and ability to force turnovers.

Leading the way is veteran guard Kaye Clark, who leads the team and conference, as well as ranking seventh-nationally with 3.5 steals per game.

Who holds the all-time season record for steals per game in program history?
