🎾 STAR IN THE MAKING

In the tennis world, there’s very few stages bigger than the grass courts at Wimbledon.

This week, one of ODU’s own will step onto those courts as late last week Yuliia Starodubtseva secured a spot in the main draw at this year’s Wimbledon, which kicks off this week in London.

With her qualification, Starodubtseva has now played in three majors this year after playing in the French and Australian Opens earlier this season.

She is set to kick off her tournament run on Monday on Court 10 at Wimbledon against Germany’s Alison Van Uytvanck.

🔼 Dance Partners. While the hoops seasons is still a few months away, we’ve got a few dance partners already on the docket for the upcoming season.

Late last week, pairings for the first round of the annual MAC-SBC Basketball challenge were announced.

The men’s basketball team will kick off the Mike Jones era inside Chartway Arena and will see the Monarchs tangle with the Buffalo Bulls. DeLisha Milton-Jones will have her women’s team heading to Ball State for a matchup with the Cardinals. This year’s first round will be the season openers on November 4.

The Sun Belt captured the inaugural MAC-SBC Challenge titles on the men’s and women’s sides, respectively, in 2023-24. The men’s teams compiled 15 wins across the 24 total matchups, including 10 in the February 2024 home contests, while the women’s teams posted 14 wins in the 24 contests, including nine during the November 2023 tilts.

🔼 Save The Date. A new era of ODU men’s soccer officially has a kickoff date.

First-year head coach Tennant McVea announced the full 2024 slate, including eight home dates in Norfolk.

The Monarchs will have three exhibition matches in a seven-day span. ODU will host UNC Wilmington on August 10 with a 5 p.m. kickoff. Three days later, they will visit College Park, Maryland to tangle with Maryland at 7 p.m. The exhibition slate ends as they travel to Longwood on August 17.

ODU will open the 2024 regular season with three straight road contests visiting George Washington (Aug. 22/1p.m.), VCU (Aug. 26/7 p.m.) and Campbell (Aug. 29/7 p.m.).

This past year, Coach Milton-Jones and the Lady Monarchs earned a third-straight 20-plus win season.

As we mentioned, they don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon as ODU rounded out its full 2024-25 roster with a 10-player recruiting class.

They’ve been hard at work this summer preparing for the upcoming year and ODUSports.com recently sat down with coach to talk about the newcomers, the summer so far and the future of the program.

Hoops season may still be months away, but the Monarchs are amped up and ready to attack the 2024-25 season as both the men’s and women’s programs rounded out their rosters for the upcoming year this week.

On the men’s side, new head coach Mike Jones announced an 11-player incoming class, while Coach Milton-Jones and the Lady Monarchs will have 10 new faces on the squad this upcoming season.
